Heat pumps currently have rebates and grants from the federal, provincial, and municipal government levels. The federal Greener Homes Grant can be combined with one of the two available BetterHomesBC rebate programs. Certain municipalities provide top-up rebates when applying for rebates through BetterHomesBC.
When switching your primary heat source from natural gas to a cold-climate heat pump, most homeowners in BC are eligible for $11,000 in rebates and grants. If you live in Chilliwack, there is an additional $2,000 available. If you qualify for the Income-Qualified Program, the total is $14,500, and up to $9,500 is billed directly to the program instead of the customer. Additional rebates are available if you need to upgrade your electrical service to your home.
The Greener Homes Loan can provide 0% interest loans for $5,000 to $40,000.

The Canada Greener Homes Grant provides funds for home evaluations and for retrofits, to a total of $5,600. Homeowners are eligible for up to $600 total for the cost of pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations and for up to $5,000 total for the implementation of eligible retrofits such as home insulation, windows doors, and air sealing. It is important that you read all eligibility criteria and grant requirements to be sure that you will qualify for reimbursement at the end of the process.
